Registration and term structure
New students pay the one-time registration fee in the current Schedule of Fees. Semester tuition, term dates, lesson length, and the ordinary weekly time are stated in the written enrollment offer. Lessons booked between academic terms are separate one-off services unless the agreement expressly includes them in the semester obligation.
Piano in the home
A student needs an adequately maintained piano in a quiet location. An acoustic piano is preferred and should ordinarily be tuned at least annually. A digital instrument should have 88 weighted keys and a sustain pedal.
Student attendance
Regular attendance is important. A cancellation may be treated as excused when the Academy receives at least 24 hours’ notice for illness, or timely notice of an emergency or accident. Other absences are ordinarily unexcused. Up to three excused absences per academic term may receive a make-up when scheduling permits. An unexcused absence does not earn a make-up or account credit.
A missed lesson is not notice of withdrawal. Withdrawal must be submitted in writing and is governed by the Refund, Withdrawal, and Account Credit Policy.
Instructor cancellations
If the Academy or instructor cancels a lesson for illness, emergency, professional development, or another reason, the Academy may offer a make-up lesson or approve an account adjustment in its discretion. An instructor cancellation does not automatically create a refund or account credit unless the student’s signed agreement or a written approval from the Academy provides otherwise.
Make-ups and rescheduling
The instructor and family will make a reasonable effort to agree on the date, time, and format of an eligible make-up. A make-up may be offered online when appropriate. If the family accepts a make-up time and then misses it without qualifying notice, the lesson is forfeited. Rescheduling requests remain subject to instructor availability and the cancellation rules above.
Practice and participation
Practice expectations depend on age, level, goals, and the student’s plan. Young beginners often benefit from short daily sessions; developing and advanced students ordinarily require longer, consistent practice. The Academy will address persistent practice concerns with the student and family before considering non-renewal.
Parents are encouraged to observe when their presence supports instruction and to participate appropriately in practice at home.
Repertoire and materials
The instructor assigns repertoire appropriate to the student. A rental, license, purchase, or materials charge must be disclosed before the material is provided. Rented scores remain StevensED property. A lost or damaged item may be billed at documented replacement cost.
Canvas
Canvas is used for assignments, repertoire access, progress notes, and course resources. The Canvas learning-management fee is $45.99 per academic term when Canvas access is provided. The Academy does not assess a music program differential charge. Access begins after enrollment and payment or an approved written payment arrangement.
Billing and account credits
The Office of the Bursar administers invoices, payments, refunds, discretionary credits, disputes, holds, and collections. Current charges and account terms appear in the Bursar policies and the student’s signed agreement.
Billing concerns should be submitted to [email protected] within five calendar days of invoice issuance to obtain administrative review before payment or ordinary collection processing. That deadline does not waive a right that cannot lawfully be waived or prevent correction of fraud, mistake, an unauthorized charge, or another substantiated error.
Lesson discontinuation
The Academy may decline renewal or discontinue lessons for persistent attendance, conduct, safety, practice, or payment concerns after reasonable notice. Discontinuation does not override the applicable refund schedule, earned-tuition calculation, or an account adjustment expressly required by a signed agreement.
